Base 36 Presents:
“Burn Pits, Settled Dust, & Weather Reports.”,
- a Poetic and Sonic History by Jet Le Parti
Base 36 is pleased to announce Burn Pits, Settled Dust, & Weather Reports., a performance at the intersection of poetry and sound art by multimedia artist, Jet Le Parti. Taking place at Base 36 on November 14, 2024, from 7–9pm, Burn Pits, Settled Dust, & Weather Reports. is a poetic response to present-day American politics via Le Parti’s distinctive and expository lens.
Known primarily for his works on canvas, 25-year-old Jet Le Parti’s career and personal practice has been defined by the rapidly evolving hyper-capitalist world he finds himself situated in. Living between Berlin and New York, Le Parti’s art grapples with feelings of isolation, melancholia and alienation within the techno-capitalist framework. Consistently inspired by studies in philosophy, Le Parti experiments with medium––his most recent creative undertakings existing within the experimental music and poetry landscapes. Le Parti’s latest album, Surface to Air, presents an electronic composition of techno, grunge and found sound as a means of verbalizing humanity’s relation to its own disarray. Fragments of the album are heavily featured in Burn Pits, Settled Dust, & Weather Reports..
Burn Pits, Settled Dust, & Weather Reports., the first performance of its kind at Base 36––an underground gallery founded by Le Parti and collaborator An Tomp in 2022––presents an evening of spoken word poetry and sound performance that reflects on the American value structure and its immense shortcomings in a nation influenced dually by its own self-indulgence and overweight presence on the global sphere. Touching on the mechanisms of racism, chauvinism, consumerism and violent interpersonal politic, Le Parti’s immersive performance will encourage the audience to consider their own impacts on and desires within a country obstructed by its many excesses.
Taking place shortly after the 2024 United States presidential election, Burn Pits, Settled Dust, & Weather Reports. creates a space for dialogue around ideas of nationhood, individualism and patriotism in a realm where we can rarely find consistency in beliefs.
